Many of us in Maine stood with the Wabanaki indigenous communities to oppose the CMP corridor, an enormous transmission line from Hydro Quebec's megadams to Massachusetts to help meet that state's "green energy" laws. It mostly runs through wilderness and the people voted 2 to 1 against it in referendum. I learned a lot about how damaging such transmission lines are during that campaign. Also how an energy company in Spain is allowed to dictate environmental policy in my backyard.

But our Democrat governor says "how high?" when Goldman Sachs says "jump" and since the latter stood to make mega $$ from the project, Janet Mills ensured it went through. (Now she's running for the U.S. Senate as she's term limited out of being governor. Doing the bidding of international corporations is her brand so I'm sure if elected she'll fit right in.)

What an amazing article! In 2007, in Pioneertown, CA the Morongo Basin, (near Joshua Tree) where I live, the insanely powerful LA Department of Water and Power was threatening to build transmission lines ("GreenPath") through our tiny community but we fought back and, unbelievably, they backed down. Later they came for us with a wind farm to crown our beautiful flat-topped mesas, and again by community effort we won the day. I hope lots of people read your article. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2010-mar-11-la-me-power11-2010mar11-story.html
